Term 1, Week 5

9 October 2026 (by Alice Fletcher-Single (afletcher-single))

Dear parents and carers,

What a busy and brilliant week we’ve had...

This week, we enjoyed two fantastic online lessons as part of the Henley Literary Festival, giving us plenty of inspiration and ideas to get our creative minds working. AF Harold made us all laugh with his 'If I Met a Tiger' performance and today Lottie Brooks author, Kate Kirky gave us some new book spoilers!

In D&T, we have been busy bringing our playground designs to life by building our playground structures.Truly phenomenal work, Endeavour (see pics).  blown We also started planning our narratives 'The Empty Chair,'.

In Geography, we completed our data collection for our fieldwork inquiry with a lovely sunny walk in Nettlebed! Our walk ended at the playground, making the trip a cross-curricular success, giving us chance to explore the structures for D&T!

Next Week

Next week promises to be another busy one!

Bikeability: On Monday, all Year 5 children will need to wear PE kit, trainers and bring their bikes and helmets to school for their Bikeability sessions. Monday is all groups. Tuesday and Thursday is group dependent - half the Year 5 will be Tuesday, half on Thursday. Your child will know on Monday which day they will also need to be in PE kit and bring their bikes and helmets.

Geography: We’ll be analysing our fieldwork findings and writing up our reports.

D&T: We’ll continue to develop and finish our playground structures with reinforcements, bringing our designs one step closer to completion.

Homework: Year 6 - Due 15th October

Maths: Place Value questions on Atom Learning
English: Find a book at home or a library that starts with dialogue (It doesn't have to be the opening sentences, but should be in the first paragraph).  Write down the title and author. Copy the first line of dialogue. Be ready to explain how this opening may make a reader want to keep reading! Challenge: Why do you think the author chose to begin this story with dialogue?
Spellings - New ones in planners.
Homework: Year 5

Maths on Atom Learning
English - Read Chapter 20 of The Boy at the Back of the Class
English: Atom Learning

We finally won the class House Points this week, so there will be a class treat to look forward to next week! Starting with slippers (There will be more of a treat,  we will decide what exactly, as a class on Monday)! The children can bring indoor slippers to wear in the classroom this week. Their outdoor shoes will go in a bag, to be hung on their peg. Please provide a named bag (a carrier bag is fine) for this.

Well done, Endeavour, for another fantastic week of hard work, creativity and enthusiasm.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs F-S
