Topic and English

We have really enjoyed our English lessons this week. Children’s writing shows superb understanding of our reading book and also the ability to reimagine events as they write their own diary entries from the perspective of one of the characters.

Topic work next week looks at the impact of climate change on population and in English we will write an information text which answers our geography inquiry question ‘Why does population change?’

Key vocabulary for next week’s topic lesson:

• region - An area that has similar physical or human features.
• climate - Long-term weather conditions in a specific region.
• climate change - A change in the Earth’s temperature, weather and rainfall over a long time.
• fossil fuels - Fuel, such as coal and gas, made from decomposed animals and plants.
• greenhouse gases - Gases in the atmosphere that trap heat from the sun and increase the temperature of our planet.
• Deforestation - The cutting down of trees in a large area.

Homework:

SPELLINGS children have brought home their week 3 spelling list – stuck into their planners. They will be tested next Friday.

READING: Finish chapter 8 of The Boy at the Back of the Classroom (p79 to the end)

English Skills on Atom Learning for Y4

Y4 MATHS on paper and will be given out on Monday as I forgot today.  Solving Problems with regrouping. Ask your child what regrouping means.

Y5 MATHS – Place Value on Atom Learning. Please do encourage your child/ren to complete this as it is really helpful to know which areas need a little more work on.

Fidget toys – Please do not bring them to school. There has been a minor outbreak of squishies in the upper school and children have been asked not to bring these into school anymore. Our experience shows that these are more of a distraction in the classroom than an aid to concentration. Children are allowed a small piece of blutac if they wish to aid concentration. We allow regular movement breaks in the classroom and children are not expected to sit still for overly long periods of time. We would appreciate your support in this matter.

House point treat next Friday.  Well done to everyone who helped the class win the weekly house point competition by earning house points – mostly for helpfulness and kindness this week. On Monday, we’ll discuss what we are going to do for the treat afternoon on Friday.
