Week Ahead In Discovery 21.09.2618 September 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
It has been another busy but successful week in Year 3! The children are definitely getting used to the fast pace and rhythm of life in Key Stage 2, and it has been lovely to see their growing confidence and independence.
English
This week, the children wrote a set of instructions explaining how to make a volcano. They worked hard to include the key features of instructional writing and presentation.
Next week, we will move on to writing an informal letter home or to a friend based on our class text, Pompeii by Karen Ball. The children will imagine they have experienced the eruption and will write about how they made it to safety. We will be exploring the features of an informal letter and looking at ways to uplevel our writing by using expanded noun phrases, ambitious adjectives and effective adverbs.
Maths
We have started Unit 2, focusing on securing place value to 100 and applying this understanding to addition and subtraction. The children have made a positive start and are developing their confidence when working with numbers.
Snack Reminder
A gentle reminder to please send your child into school with a healthy snack each day. Alternatively, KS2 children can access school snacks through ParentPay.
Homework
Homework has been appropriately set this week and includes: Maths worksheets, regular times table practice (a must!) reading for pleasure and weekly spellings
English SPaG homework will also be introduced before the end of Term 1.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It makes a huge difference to your child's learning.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
