Week ahead 22.06.26

19 June 2026 (by Alice Fletcher-Single (afletcher-single))

Dear parents and carers,
It has been a hot week, but a fun one! The class did some printing with ink for their William Morris style repeated patterns today (pics to follow). There has been lots of lots of fantastic diary writing in English, and in Science year 6 are asking questions about what we know about climate change and sustainability, to inform a school survey.
Next  week in our history lesson we will moving on from the Victorian era in our census topic, to the 1911 census. The class will look at primary sources and learn about the suffrage movement and how the census in 1911 was affected by boycotts. No vote, no count!
This will inform a lot of our English lessons next week, writing information texts about the Suffrage movement.
Useful vocabulary below.

boycott

To stop buying or using something from a company or country to show disagreement with their views or actions and encourage change.

protest

When people come together to publicly show their disagreement with something, often aiming to persuade those in power to make changes.

suffrage

The right to vote in political elections.

suffragette

Led by Emmeline Pankhurst, members of the Women’s Social and Political Union welcomed women from diverse backgrounds and became more violent in 1905.

suffragist

Members of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies, which campaigned for votes for the middle class.

suffrage movement

Men and women who campaigned for women’s right to vote.

I have emailed a costume list for their part in the production. This is only to give a rough idea, please do discuss with your child as they may want to tweak slightly! Thank you so much to those who have donated boxes for our prop department (!) towards our set!
From the weekly round up, please see weather update for next week below
Next week is set to be around 30 degrees each day. Children must bring a water bottle to school and have sun cream applied before school. They also need a hat. Children will not be allowed outside without a hat. As it is very hot, we will be relaxing the usual uniform rules from Monday to Friday. Children are welcome to wear whichever school uniform items they find the coolest. If this needs to be supplemented or replaced with home clothes then that is allowed too. The focus is on making sure the children are as cool and comfortable as possible. Please ensure that children still wear secure and sensible footwear - backless shoes such as flip flops or sliders are not safe outdoor shoes. We will be making use of shaded areas, taking regular drink breaks and limiting very physical activities during play times. We may stay in some of the time as well but will judge each day. Thank you for your co-operation. We hope that these measures will help keep everyone stay a little more comfortable during the hot weather.
