The Week Ahead ...15 May 2026 (by Abigail Winter (awinter)) |
To all our wonderful Highflyer families,
Where has the term gone! Given that this is our final week of Term 5, we shall be working ‘extra’ hard to finish off our topic focus in geography; and thinking about the reasons why people like to visit a coastal town (including information from people telling us their reasons) :)
We also plan to use tally charts and create a series of simple graphs to show the most popular options – as well as recording how we found out – and what our next ‘topic-inspired’ questionnaire could be about!? We are still using Weymouth as our example; therefore, will be asking the question: Why do people use Weymouth and its local coastline?
Spellings are on Monday as usual this coming week; as well as, hopefully, giving the children a little bit of extra time to reflect on how much progress they have made in our recent spelling patterns, known sounds and Common Exception (Tricky!) words … great stuff indeed … - and all staff are so incredibly proud of some beautifully recent reading successes – including those children being gently supported by Mr Wright in their daily Lightning Squad sessions. Brilliantly WELL DONE Highflyers :)
Forest School continues on Wednesday morning with P.E. on Thursday afternoon (as timetabled) – with the promise of a ‘Class Treat’ to finish off on Friday afternoon (from 2pm) … as even though we have accumulated a HUGE number of house points each week … we have just missed out on being crowned the ‘official’ winner in our whole school assembly this afternoon … so have promised, at home time, to rustle up something lovely for them all to enjoy instead – if only to recognise all their hard work, kindness towards others, trying our best, having beautiful manners, showing care for everything and everyone … to name but a few!?!
Our phonic focus for Week 5 will be Suffixes: -ment/-ness - with new homophones of not/knot – while in Maths we shall be starting our unit on 'Time' and learning about how an analogue clock is read. Our mastering number focus will remain, of course, each day on developing a deeper understanding of strategies to calculate and help problem solve as well.
All weekly maths homework gratefully received – on any day of the week; with our watercolour paintings (of shells) and sea-scape backgrounds looking great so far – and I, for one, am already excited about seeing the children’s gorgeous finished products! Plus, an exciting morning already pencilled onto our calendar for Monday at 9.30am (with Mrs Lorrimer-Simmonds) – when we all take part in the ‘House’ Art Project – to collaborate towards an ENORMOUS piece when finished :)
Katie Hart will also be joining us on Monday afternoon – for a SCARF workshop (re: our whole school PSHE scheme of Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship) which we are all, also, greatly looking forward to … to conclude another wonderful term’s learning including “Being My Best” …
Wishing you a lovely last week of term and equally relaxing break next week when it arrives ! …
Best – as always,
Mrs Winters and the ‘HF’ Team
