Unicorn Class Blog Term 3 Week 6 Week Commencing 9th February 2026
We have been thinking about people who are special to us and making Valentines day cards. Some of us noticed that the word Mummy had three ‘m’ in, Daddy had three ‘d’ in and ‘m’ and ‘d’ were our special letters last week. We used our fine motor skill to draw pictures, write inside, select and stick hearts on our cards. We also carefully threaded red pasta on shiny ribbon to make bracelets. We have also used paint and collage materials to create pictures.
We have loved choosing, listening to and discussing a range of books. We have enjoyed painting to make pictures from our Tales from Tool Kit story time. There were beautiful paintings of the hedgehog and rabbit picking flowers, playing in the garden and even in one painting hedgehog meeting a giraffe.
During phonics this week we have continued to enjoy looking at and noticing rhyming. We have been playing listening games such as matching the animal sound to the correct animal. We are continuing to learn the words and actions to our Alphabet chant. We have been learning the letters ‘g’ (The girl is glad) and ‘o’ (The octopus). The patter we use when writing the grapheme ‘g’ is ‘Left around the girl, down her plait and curl’ and ‘o’ is ‘From the top of the head and all the way around the octopus.’ We practiced writing ‘g’ and ‘o’ letters using our magic fingers, pencils and pens. Whilst we were making cards lots of us recognised that Mummy begins with a ‘M’ and that Daddy begins with a ‘D’.
We have been having lots of opportunities to practice our counting skills whilst playing counting games using the Ladybird game, matching numbers to quantities, singing number songs, using connecting cubes, making sure there are enough cups and plates for everyone, checking to make sure our models had the same amount of wheels each side etc.
We have been exploring Knex, joining pieces together to make racing cars, rollers and planes.
We have enjoyed using our imaginative play to make food for each other, the dinosaurs and animals, helping put bandages on the babies and pretending to play schools. We have also been creating fantastic buildings using blocks, Duplo, magnetic tiles and Lego.
Outside we loved going to the all weather pitch, we played ‘What's the time Mr Wolf’, ‘We’re going on a bear hunt' and the ‘The floor is lava’ using the lines on the pitch. We also took turns to blow bubbles and chase bubbles to pop them.
Our topic next term is ‘Wheels, wings or walking?’ On the 10th March we have got Farms2Ewe coming to visit the school.
Hope you all have a lovely week next week and look forward to seeing you all the following week.
Best wishes
Mrs Fenwick
