Welcome to Term 4 23.02.2612 February 2026 (by Sonia Coles (scoles)) |
The week has ended with an exciting science theme, focusing on learning about our amazing human body. The children have also enjoyed their class treat!
This marks the end of a fantastic Term 3, and I would like to thank you all for your continued support. We are now looking ahead to Term 4, which is going to be a very busy term filled with lots of fun and engaging learning activities in school. We can’t wait to get started!
Science
This week we have focused on nutrition and the vital nutritional groups that our bodies require. We explored how different foods can be classified into various nutritional groups and why they are important for keeping us healthy.
We conducted an experiment to investigate which of three juices (orange, apple, or pineapple) contained the most Vitamin C. The children made predictions beforehand using their prior knowledge and experience. Most predicted orange juice, and they were correct! Pineapple came second, followed by apple.
We also looked at the skeleton and its functions, explored X-rays, and even examined some chicken bones to understand bone structure. Our final lesson focused on muscles and how they help us move. The children learned that muscles work in pairs – when one contracts, the other relaxes.
English
Children will learn about direct speech and the use of inverted commas in their writing. For their first English writing task, they will write a conversation between Romulus and Remus and explore how it is believed that Rome was formed. Children will apply their previous SPaG knowledge to make their writing descriptive and interesting.
Maths
In Maths, we have been completing our topic on Measurement and starting our new topic on Fractions
Homework
As we begin our new History topic, “Why did the Romans settle in Britannia?”, I would like the children to carry out some research to support their understanding and encourage them to take ownership of their learning. This will replace the SPaG booklet for this week.
Maths homework will include worksheets on calculating perimeter and continuing to master times tables, as we begin our new topic on fractions.
Please remember:: Read for pleasure daily and practise answering VIPER comprehension questions
The curriculum newsletter and timetable can be found on the class page.
Wishing you a restful break and welcoming you to an exciting Term 4!
