Term 3 Week 4 in Adventure Class

30 January 2026 (by Elle Freeman (efreeman))

This week the children have continued to enjoy looking at climate, weather and environment. A key highlight has been using clay to make animal models- we spent time working on clay techniques, breaking down each part we would need for our animals. We completed an experiment, observing thermometers and water at different temperatures- we became familiar with the temperature going up visually on the thermometer as it gets hotter. Throughout the week we have done lots of phonics and writing practice, it is amazing to see the children growing in independence with sounding out and spelling words they want to write. Well done Adventure Class!

We looked at the sounds:

Next Week

Phonics this week will be a consolidation week.

Now we are beginning to look solely at digraphs, we will only have one focus sound a week. We will also be consolidating all the previous sounds we have learned to ensure they are embedded.

Maths this week will continue to look at simple addition under 10 and recognising mathematical symbols such as ‘+’ and ‘=’.

Our shared reader this week will be: The Train Set

EYFS Learning

In EAD: We will paint our clay models and enjoy role playing in our doctor’s surgery.

In UTW: We will look at differences between the UK and other countries. Animals, environments and temperatures.

In Literacy: We will look at the book ‘Wear It!’ thinking about materials and clothing for different weathers. We will experiment with waterproof and non-waterproof items.

PE: Gymnastics continues.

Junk Modelling Materials + Home Corner

I have a small plea for you all this week; if you have any recycling materials going spare for our junk modelling area, we would love your donations. Equally, if you have any items that would be good for our home corner we would love to expand this further e.g:

-Play kitchen equipment

-Child safe old Household items (plates/decorations/jars/small chairs/boxes/footrests (anything!))

If you have anything you think might be useful but you’re not sure, please just pop me an email and check. It’s always so important to us that we continue to keep provision exciting, and the more we can resource our class areas with real life objects and wondrous play ideas the better! So many of our children’s favourite activities and toys have been things donated.

Thank you for all your support!
