The Week Ahead ... (beg. 8.12.25)

5 December 2025 (by Abigail Winter (awinter))

To all our wonderful Highflyer families,

This week we are really looking forward to our fabulous Christmas Play – ‘Gabriel’s Big Break’. Everyone has been working SO hard on their words, songs and actions – and cannot thank you all enough/just wanted to say how lovely the children’s' costumes are and how great they will all look on the day …

After the second performance on Tuesday, we are planning on finishing off our history topic (‘How was school different in the past?’) and term's study before our very last week of term arrives – but where has that term gone!?

Phonics and Spellings

The phonic focus to the end of this term is to Review and Consolidate – therefore, we will simply be reviewing any previous patterns/spelling rules learnt over the last five weeks in class.

However, please do send in planners every day; even on Monday as we are still hoping to squeeze in our ‘Have-A-Go’ Spelling quiz at some point! Even though fully appreciate, for the children, that it might be a little busy … ;)

Maths

Mastering Number activities will continue through our final fortnight - with us looking further at how the numbers 11–19 can be composed of ‘10 and a bit’. This aspect is really thorough as the 'teens' number patterns differ from the rest of the rest the ten groups; but still allow all the children to consolidate and build on their understanding of the ordinal aspect of numbers within 20 – whilst we begin to gently enjoy some additional ‘Christmas-themed’ shape work alongside all the excitement …

Forest School will be as normal this week – Wednesday morning – therefore, please do remember to bring a full change of warm and waterproof clothes :); with a quick mention re: double check that clothes are adequate for the week’s weather conditions … given there might even be some ‘white stuff’?

Wishing you all a lovely week sixth week of Term 2; and do hope to see as many of you as possible for our performances … knowing you will be as equally proud of all the children as we are …

With very kindest regards – as always,

Mrs Winters (Abi) and the whole of our fantastically festive ‘Team Highflyer’
