Unicorn Class Term 2 Week 428 November 2025 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick)) |
Unicorn Class Blog Term 2 Week 4 Week Commencing 24th November 2025
There has been great excitement this week when we heard that Zoe’s baby had been born. The children were very excited to see a picture of her beautiful baby boy. Lots of children wanted to make her cards to celebrate the birth of her baby. Lots of children have wanted to play with the toy babies, choosing what they want to put on them, changing their nappies and taking them for walks. Some children discussed what they used to be like as a baby and the clothes they used to wear.
This week we have enjoyed listening to ‘We're going on a bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We have been going on bear hunts outside, sometimes making up different versions. We have enjoyed using the character puppets and small world to retell the story and we have been making bear pictures. During our Tales for Toolkit time the children made up a fantastic story about a monkey and bear.
This week we had a maths focus on prepositions. We listened carefully to instructions such as put the bear on top of the roof, next to the house, inside the house and we also took it in turns to give the instructions. The story, ‘We're going on a bear hunt’, has made ideal opportunities to discuss and understand prepositions. We also used preposition language whilst building with blocks, the magnetic tiles, marble run and whilst on the climbing frame and going into the den.
During phonics this week we enjoyed singing, ‘Baa, Baa, Black Sheep’ . We used voice sounds to imitate the sounds a sheep and other animals make. The children were able to demonstrate ways that different animals might sound when feeling different emotions, such as How might a dog sound when it is sad? How does a lion sound when it is angry? They were able to discuss how their voices change when you try to communicate different emotions. We did oral blending and segmenting and have been practicing counting the number of sounds in a word using our fingers for example, b-oy (2 sounds), sh-ee-p (3 sounds).
We have been busy preparing props and singing ready for our festive singing.
The dark tent, painting, using the white board, pens, making farms, fire stations, rockets and garages using the magnetic tiles, making potions, music and using the balls, climbing frame and bikes have been popular this week. Outside we have also enjoyed playing hide and seek, making muddy puddles and playing with cars.
Next week we will continue with our ‘What is a celebration?’ topic and have a ‘Gingerbread man theme’ as part of this we will be making and decorating gingerbread, doing obstacle courses, and exploring floating and sinking. We will also start to decorate our classroom ready for Christmas.
Please can you make sure your child has a change of clothes at school and labelled hat and gloves now the weather is getting colder.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week.
Best wishes
Mrs Fenwick
