Unicorn Class Term 1 Week 4

26 September 2025 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick))

Unicorn Class Blog                    Term 1 Week 4               Week Commencing 22nd September 2025

This week we have had another fantastic week of fun, creative learning and exploring.

This week in the Unicorn’s class we have enjoyed listening to different versions of The Little Red Hen and discussing the story. We made bread like the Little Red Hen. However, we worked together unlike the farm animals in the story. We listened carefully to the instructions and enjoyed scooping, pouring, stirring and kneading. We were fascinated by how much rising our bread rolls did during proofing. The bread smelt delicious when it was cooked and we were very excited about tasting it. We have enjoyed using the farm animals to make up our own stories and adding out the story.

We have been planting cress heads. We were very impressed that some of them had started to grow when we arrived at school the next day. We have been taking good care of our cress by watering them when needed.

We took it in turns to say something that made us special and drew a picture.

During maths we have had a shape focus which has included completing puzzles, going on shape hunts, selecting pre-cut shapes to make Little Red Hen pictures. The wooden blocks and the magnetic tiles were used to make homes and castles for the teddies, people and ladybirds. We used informal and mathematical language around the shapes whilst taking part in these activities.

During phonics children have been completing rhyming words in books and rhymes. Discussing words beginning with the same sound such as different names like Summer, Sebby and Sebastian.

This week we have also enjoyed making and playing with playdough, using the water tray to explore objects with holes in, using the trucks and diggers in the sand. The big sandpit has also been used to make “Giant holes”, “A big castle”, “Ice-creams” and “A volcano”. This week we have also enjoyed playing ‘Duck, Duck, Goose!’, ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’ and parachute games using balls and playing the cat and mouse game.

Next week we will be continuing with our ‘All about me topic’ and having a ‘Harvest/Autumn’ theme which will include making soup and making autumn collections.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week for more exploring.

Best wishes

Mrs Fenwick
