Highflyer Class Term 6 Week 1

22 May 2025 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt))

2 June 2025

Welcome to the last few weeks of the summer term and our new history topic - What is a Monarch?  We will be thinking about the role of a monarch in our country and how it has changed since William the Conqueror over 1000 years ago.  We will be referring to our local town of Wallingford as it is steeped in history with a castle (ruin) and a royal mint.  We start with our current monarch - King Charles III.  Spellings are on Monday as usual this week.

Further details about the term's topics are detailed in the curriculum letter on the Highflyer Class web page.  The current timetable is also included.

Forest School continues on Tuesday and P.E. on Thursday as timetabled.   This term P.E. on Thursday is athletics.

Our phonic focus isSuffix - -tion   (station/nation)

                                 Homophones: meet/meat

Maths we are continuing the unit on 'Time' and learning about how an analogue clock is read.   Reading the hour, half-hour, quarter past, quarter to and using the minute hand to show five minute divisions.  Our mastering number focus is to develop a deeper understanding of strategies to calculate and help problem solve as well.

Please remember to return the weekly maths homework by Friday of each week.

Have a lovely first week!

Mrs Wyatt and Mrs Winters.
