Highflyer Class Term 4 Week 121 February 2025 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt)) |
24 February 2025
Welcome to Term 4 and herald of Spring!
This term we are studying history and asking the question 'How did we learn to fly?' We will look at historic attempts to get off the ground and learn about the patience and resilience of the Wright brothers to design a aircraft and then find out about different pioneers in aviation in the early part of the 20th century.
Forest School continues on Tuesday and P.E. on Thursday as timetabled.
Our phonic focus is: Week 1 Adverbs ending in –ly (including to split digraph and –y words)
Common Exception words: plant*, bath, path (* May be tricky words according to regional accent.)
Apostrophes for possession - 's
Maths is learning about money and knowing the difference between each coin/note and understanding the value of each. As such, role playing 'shops' at home with coins up to 10p, then 20p this week would be really helpful. Our other focus of mastering number is to develop a deeper understanding of strategies that will enable them to calculate efficiently, with a focus on using a ‘making 10’ or ‘bridging through 10’ strategy to add two 1-digit numbers, e.g. 8 + 5.
Another change to our regular weekly timetable is that spellings will be tested on a MONDAY from next week - Week 2.
Please remember to return the weekly maths homework by Friday of each week.
Have a great week!
