First Week of Term 4

19 February 2025 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

I do hope you have all had a restful half-term holiday and that children are ready for the busy term ahead.  Please read this information carefully as there are some changes to the timetable for Term 4.

New History Topic – How hard was it to invade and settle in Britain?

Our history topic takes a look at the causes and consequences of the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain. We will find out about the key features of Anglo-Saxon settlements and identify changes and continuities in settlements from prehistoric Britain. We will find out how Anglo-Saxon beliefs changed and how missionaries spread the word of Christianity. We will also take a look at the threat of Viking invasion to the Anglo-Saxons.

Our shared reader for this term links nicely with the topic. It is Tony Bradman’s  Anglo- Saxon Boy. This tale of betrayal, battle and bloodshed promises to be a great read. Children are welcome to order their own copies and it can be found here: Anglo-Saxon Boy. Please note that other booksellers are available.

English Skills – a test should be completed each week – these are marked on Friday mornings

Weekly spellings – tested on a Thursday morning and new spellings given out

Reading – in addition to the class shared reader, children should have their own reading book which they read daily. If children are not choosing of their own accord to read on a daily basis, please try to encourage regular reading sessions at home.

As always, please use the class email to contact me should you need to: investigatorsclass@nettlebed.oxon.sch.uk

Have a great week!
