Highflyer Class Term 3 Week 51 February 2025 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt)) |
3 February 2025
Our topic this term has been looking at the wonders of our world. Last week we wrote a story entry in the style of the author of 'Love Our Earth' - which looked at different climates globally. We have been looking at seas and oceans of the world and thinking about the difference between the two. This week we are looking at maps and map symbols and using our local area map to investigate and identify features.
Forest School is on Tuesday and P.E. on Thursday as timetabled.
Our phonic focus is: Week 5 Adding endings to single-syllable words ending in a single consonant (e.g. pat/patted)
could, would, should
Contractions: couldn’t, wouldn’t, shouldn’t
Maths continues with our multiplication and division unit. We have started learning the two times table (up to 5 lots of 2 = 10) and using the language of multiplication. Mastering Number is looking at near doubles. This week’s activities build on the previous week’s work on ‘near doubles’. The children will continue to use known doubles facts to derive near doubles, and the activities link practical work with the abstract recording of doubles and near doubles. We will practise our knowledge of doubles by subitising doubles arrangements beyond 10. We will practise that near doubles can be created by adding 1 or subtracting 1 from a double. Following on from this, we will learn that near doubles facts are always odd numbers because they are 1 more or 1 less than a double, which is an even number.
Please remember to return the weekly maths homework by Friday of each week.
Wishing you all a lovely week.
