Week Ahead In Discovery 27.1.25

26 January 2025 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

It has been another busy but exciting week for the children in Discovery. Results of house captains and vice captains and winning the class treat.

Well done to all the children who put themselves forward for the position of house captains. It takes a lot of courage and determination. The results were announced in our Friday school assembly. Massive congratulations to the following children who have been elected as either a house captain or vice captain. We look forward to these children carrying out the responsibility that they have undertaken.

Hestia - Jack and Clemmie J

Apollo- Henry and Ali

Poseidon - Myla and Poppy

Demeter - Phoebe B and Iris

Discovery has also won the class treat this week. Children are allowed to wear slipper/ comfortable footwear in class all week and can bring in a soft toy only (no batteries). On Friday, they are allowed to bring in playing/ trade cards but they are solely responsible for these. The children can wear appropriate home clothes. We are hoping to have a slightly relaxed afternoon before assembly.

English- I was very impressed with my class and the effort they put in to create a persuasive leaflet about Antarctica. Over the next 2 weeks we will be writing a fantasy story based on Shackleton's Journey. They will write about what might happen in their quest to reach Antarctica? What route they will be taking? Would could go wrong? Who might they meet? Make up an animal/monster they discover while they travel to their destination. We will focus on prepositions in spag along with their previous knowledge of adjectives, adverbs, similes and metaphors.

Maths- assessment of multiplication and division B. Moving onto new unit on length and perimeter.

Homework- has been set on Atom learning, spag booklets and spellings handed out on Friday. Please ensure your child is reading at home daily for a minimum of 10 or 15 mins, along with their times table practise. Many thanks for your help in advance.

Wishing you all a good week ahead.
