Investigator News T3Wk4

25 January 2025 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

After another great week in Investigator Class, I feel I must share with you some feedback from Miss Ravenscroft who teaches PE on Wednesday afternoons. Every week, she is full of praise for this wonderful group of young people who show excellent team spirit, true resilience, great skills and heartwarming camaraderie. This does not surprise me but it is lovely to hear, nevertheless. They should be very proud of themselves.

Geography: Where does our food come from?

Please have a look in your food cupboards to find out where your food comes from. If possible, bring in empty packets bearing the country of origin. This lesson is all about mapping and calculating a product’s food miles or the distance food has travelled to reach our supermarket shelves. We will use scale bars to calculate approximate food mileage.

We have already learned about the environmental impact of different foods and also about the benefits to communities which do export their products, especially those who work in alliance with responsible trading schemes. Children are learning that there are a range of factors to consider and pros and cons to the global trading of food.

Forest School on Tuesday 4th February Advance notice

Y4s (and any Y5 not going to Kilvrough) will take part in Forest School. They will need suitable outdoor clothing and they should come to school dressed for the outdoors. They must bring school uniform in a bag to change into afterwards. Please provide a plastic bag to carry home muddy boots.

Acts of Peace

Since the class decided on their top acts of peace (to encourage peace and harmony in our school environment), the tally is quite impressive. They are smiling at people, helping to resolve disputes, paying compliments, ensuring that no one is left out in the playground amongst other things. Keep it going Investigator – you are doing a great job!
