Geography Topic - Where does our Food Come From?

Last week’s focus was on trading fairly and responsibly. In the context of the cocoa bean farmers of Cote d’Ivoire, we learned about schemes that benefit not just the farmers themselves but the whole community.

This week we take a closer look at the chocolate industry and map the journey of the cocoa bean to our supermarket shelves. We will be drawing on previous learning and considering the environmental impact of the process and the benefits to farmers of working in cooperatives and in alliance with fairtrade schemes.

Knowledge and skills in this week's learning:

• Understanding that there are different opinions on importing products.
• Knowledge of the locations a cocoa bean travels through to reach the UK.
• Knowledge of the process from cocoa bean to chocolate.
