Unicorn Class Term 2 Week 41 December 2024 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick)) |
Unicorn Class Blog Term 2 Week 4 Week Commencing 25th November 2024
This week we have enjoyed listening to ‘We're going on a bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We have been going on bear hunts outside, sometimes making up different versions. We have also enjoyed using the character puppets and small world to retell the story. We have been making bear pictures.
We have been busy preparing props and singing ready for our festive singing on Wednesday.
We loved looking at the stars that had been made using recycled materials for the Christmas tree competition on Friday. Some of us decorated stars and then used the hole puncher to thread ribbon through so that it could hang on a Christmas tree.
The dark tent has been popular this week with some nocturnal animals visiting such as an owl, mole, fox and hedgehog.
During our Forest School time we hunted for treasure (golden coins), we used the large diggers, drain pipes and balls, collected leaves to make into nests and enjoyed playing hide and seek.
Outside this week we have also enjoyed using our balance skills on the balance bikes and climbing frame. We are all gaining more confidence and developing our bike skills further. We enjoyed playing musical instruments and searching for mini beasts. We found a millipede which had been sleeping under some leaves. When we finished looking at it we made sure we put it back and put leaves over the top of it again to keep it warm.
This week we had a maths focus on prepositions. We listened carefully to instructions such as put the bear on top of the roof, next to the house, inside the house and we also took it in turns to give the instructions. We were given lots of boxes that we enjoyed using. We used our imagination to make different things whilst doing this. There was lots of prepositions talk e.g. “Put the pizza box on top of the other one.”, “Let's put the boxes next to each other to make a big bed.” ‘We're going on a bear hunt’ has made ideal opportunities to discuss and understand prepositions.
During phonics we have been learning the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet. We have been practising rhythm and rhyming, taking it in turns to perform the rhyme. We played a game where we needed to listen to the recordings we made the previous day of children performing and listen carefully and work out who the voices belonged to. We have also continued with oral blending and segmenting.
During our SCARF time we made family bracelets, we chose a bead for each person and pets in our family. We compared similarities and differences with each other.
The cars, Numicon, castle, trains, Lego and dinosaurs have been popular this week.
On Wednesday at 9.15am we have our Christmas Festive Singing, please make your way around to the community hall entrance after bringing your children into school. Children can come into school wearing their own festive clothes for singing. Please can you put the Forest School waterproofs, hats, gloves etc on your child/children’s pegs so they have them for after their singing.
Next week we will be having a ‘Gingerbread man theme’.
Hope you all are having a lovely weekend and looking forward to seeing you all this week for more exploring.
Best wishes
