Highflyer Class Term 2 Week 422 November 2024 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt)) |
25 November 2024 Maths counting in schools from the past.
This week we focus on our drama production and will be working with Challenger and Discovery Class to prepare and practise the script. Last week your child will have been told what part they playing and given suggestions for costumes. Some will just be using ordinary casual clothing so will be easy to sort.
For ideas see below:
'FAN' characters - Casual clothes under a coat, hat and scarf.
'CHILD' characters - hat, coat, scarf and gloves.
'CHRISTMAS DINER' characters - festive jumper/casual clothes with a paper hat (i.e. from a cracker)
CHRISTMAS TREE characters - dress in green with green /bauble attachments, suggestion of battery lights and headgear such as a star or angel to represent the top of a tree.
'NATIVITY' characters - traditional nativity outfit according to their part. The suggestion is that angels have tinsel bands as 'halos' and white clothing. For the nativity costumes, there will be some clothing that will be suitable in school. Please let us know if you need any help sourcing this.
Footwear should be light to wear but secure on the feet. No slippers, thank you.
All costumes need to be in school in a NAMED bag large enough to store them and can be brought in as soon as you are able to. All costumes need to be in school by Monday 2 December. We are planning to do a preparatory dress rehearsal week beginning 2 December.
Phonics and Spellings
This week the phonic focus is: Term 2 Week 4 - Suffix -ful (and review words with / or / ore / au / aw/)
Please send their planner into school every day.
Maths
This week’s activities begin by looking at how the numbers 11–19 can be composed of ‘10 and a bit’. The focus for the week is to understand that the numbers 11–19 can be seen as ’10 and a bit’ rather than using the language of ‘one 10’. It is important that the children say these numbers clearly to ensure that they are not confusing them with other 2-digit numbers, e.g. 13 with 30. When recording the numbers, we will teach that the children write the digit ‘1’ first. With the other maths focus, the addition and subtraction unit will finished and assessed and then we will be moving onto shape.
Forest School is as normal this week. Please remember to bring the full change of warm and waterproof clothes. Last Tuesday, although it was snowing and making it a quite magical session, some children were very much underprepared for the cold and wet weather. Do please check that clothes are adequate for the weather conditions as the children will be outside during these colder weeks until the Spring.
Have a lovely week fourth week of Term 2.
