Highflyer Class Term 2 Week 28 November 2024 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt)) |
11th November 2024
Last week was a great start to our topic and everyone was really interested in different photographs of school classrooms over the last century or so. This week we start learning about how schools have changed within living memory and reflect as well on earlier classrooms from the 19th Century.
Also on Monday this week is Armistice Day. We will remember the two-minute silence at 11.00 am as a school and have some brief discussion about the poppy and what it represents. If your child has not had an opportunity to buy a poppy, they will still be available on Monday morning. If your child wishes for a Royal British Legion ruler/pencil/eraser etc, then it is a minimum of a 50p donation. (Recommended by the RBL).
Phonics and Spellings
This week the phonic focus is: Term 2 Week 2 - Apostrophes for possession (and review words with / ir / ur / er /)
Contraction word: won't
Please send their planner into school every day.
Reading
We are reading books related to our topic of 'How were schools different in the past?' We continue with 'The Toymaker' by Martin Waddell.
The class book called 'Animal Poems' has been started, concentrating on the performance of the poem and making dramatic effects.
Maths
This week, the children will explore the composition of 7, relating this to their previous work on 7 as ‘5 and a bit’ and as an odd number composed of 2 parts: 1 odd part and 1 even part. Our other focus continues with addition and subtraction and understanding how they are linked together. Practising number bonds to 10 will really help mathematical thinking and problem solving.
Forest School is as normal this week. Please remember to bring the full change of warm and waterproof clothes.
Have a lovely week second week of Term 2.
