Endeavour Class: Term 2, Week 2

10 November 2024 (by Kerry Burbedge (kburbedge))

We had a great first week back to school last week - we began reading an abridged version of Oliver Twist, the children worked really hard on some character descriptions of either Fagin or the Artful Dodger, we also watched some clips of the 1968 film. Some of the children may have been singing some of those well-known songs!

This week, we will be learning about what it was like to be a working child during Tudor times. We will find out how old working children would have been and the types of jobs they were expected to do. This feeds into our writing this week when we will be writing an letter in application for a job. We will attempt to use some persuasive language in our formal writing.

Tomorrow, the Year 6 children will be attending a short service of remembrance at the Lychgate and they will be given the honour of laying a cross at the graves of those from Nettlebed who fought in the World Wars. Please ensure that children have a coat and possibly gloves or a hat as we will be outside for a while. The rest of the school will observe a minutes silence together on the playground.

A huge well done to all the children who submitted their story to the BBC 500 Word Story competition - they worked incredibly hard on them.

Please ensure that you have read the email sent out vis the office, about our forthcoming trip to Reading Museum. We are are so excited to dress up as Victorians for the day!

Wishing a fabulous week ahead.
