Week Ahead In Discovery 30.9.24

28 September 2024 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

We've had an exciting week watching our shield and composite volcanoes erupt in class. We have 2 new members of the eco council. Results will be announced on Monday.

Last week, we made our own shield volcano from salt dough, painted it. Jack brought in a composite volcano and then we created our own lava and watched both volcanoes erupt. Using the salt dough volcano as an example, the children wrote a set of instructions. They incorporated imperatives verbs and features of instruction writing.

Next week, we will be writing poems on volcanoes. We will also celebrate national poetry day on Thursday. Our focus will be on adjectives, similes and metaphors in spag to make our poems fun and interesting.

Maths: We've completed our unit on Place Values, along with the first set of assessments. The reminder of this term will be on Addition and Subtraction. Please could I request that children continue to work on place values and their times tables at home.

Homework: Maths homework will be on Atom learning, spellings have been issued to all on Friday, times tables regular practise learning 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10. Daily varied reading at home and complete the first page of their new spag books. All submissions should be in by Thursday or sooner. Late homework will not be marked. Thanks for all your support.

Eco council results will be announced on Monday.

National poetry day on Thursday.

A visit from the PCO on Friday in year 1 and 3.

Wishing you all a good week ahead.
