Well, the weeks are most certainly flying by and it’s hard to believe that we are just about halfway through Term 1.

Topic

The learning continues next week and in our topic work, we will consider the question, ‘How are rainforests changing?’  In this week’s lesson we will describe why tropical rainforests are important to our Earth, and try to understand the negative environmental impact that humans have on the Amazon rainforest. I am sure that pupils will have some strong views about this and they will be putting their ideas into writing in a letter to the Brazilian president.

English

We will begin the week by editing and redrafting our rainforest poetry and then preparing to perform it.  This ties in nicely with National Poetry Day which is officially on 3^rd October.

Maths

In maths, Y5 are wrapping up their unit on Place Value and beginning the next which has an addition and subtraction calculation focus.  Year 4 continue their unit on Place Value.

Both year groups are embarking on the Mastering Number at KS2 programme which aims to secure understanding of multiplication and division and develop automaticity of these key facts which are essential for success in kS2 maths.

Science

Please see the photo gallery which shows the two year groups carrying out investigations. Y4 are finding out about the function of different types of teeth and why and how we can protect them. In this week’s lesson they will be using plaque disclosing tablets. Y5 continue their chemistry unit about irreversible changes. We are finding out what happens when acids react with a bicarbonate.
