Unicorn Class Term 1 Week 322 September 2024 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick)) |
Unicorn Class Blog Term 1 Week 3 Week Commencing 16th September 2024
This week we have had another fantastic week of fun, creative learning and exploring.
We have enjoyed listening to Handa’s Surprise, exploring the different fruits from the story, learning which animal took each fruit, using the puppets and fruits to retell the story and make up our own stories.
The pineapple and banana were the most popular fruits when tasting the different fruits, some children liked the smell of the passion fruit but did not like the taste.
We looked at images by Giussepe Arcimboldo, showing how the artist had made faces using fruit and different natural objects, we discussed what the painter had used, which fruits we liked, did not like and then we created our own art work using fruits, vegetables and pinecones. This week we have also looked in the mirror and used paint sticks to create self portraits and loved using foam paint.
Some of us wanted to make medals using lids, paper, felt tips, scissors, ribbon and tape.
During water play we explored different fruits and vegetables, pretending to make meals, feeding the sea creatures and making flower arrangements.
Outside, we have enjoyed running and chasing games, hide and seek, using the large sandpit, bikes and scooters, kicking, throwing and catching balls.
Building train tracks has been very popular again this week. We have been working collaboratively to share ideas to develop our play. We built hotels close to the train track so people can stay there.
This week during maths we have had a main focus on comparing sizes using the vocabulary big, small, bigger, smaller, biggest and smallest and middle sized. We have been comparing a range of items such as fruits from the Handa’s Surprise story, shells, worms. During snack time Nolan and Oscar noticed that Oscar had a bigger bottle than Nolan, which then started a conversation comparing the sizes of their bottles. We have also been learning the Handa’s Surprise song and working out how many fruits were left in her basket each time1 fruit had been taken away.
During phonics we have been listening out for environmental sounds, rhyming, learning and singing a range of nursery rhymes and noticing and using alliteration.
Next week we will be continuing with our ‘All about me topic’ and having a ‘Little Red Hen’ theme which will include making bread rolls.
Just a reminder Forest School is on Wednesday. Please can your child/children come to school in their Forest school clothes, waterproof and bring a change of clothes.
Hope you all are having a lovely weekend and looking forward to seeing you all this week for more exploring.
Best wishes
