The Week Ahead T1 Wk4

21 September 2024 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

Katherine Rundell live event

The live online author event was fabulous! Katherine Rundell gave a fascinating insight into her work as an author as she talked about her motivation and inspiration for writing and the writing process. She had some interesting ideas and I think we all learned a lot from her.

Some of her top tips:

Be curious about the world. Look up… Experience real places. Novelists steal ideas from the real world.

Start your story idea with ‘What if…?’ and let your imagination run wild. Never let anyone tell you that your story is too far-fetched.

Start your story close to the action to hook your reader in.

If you get stuck and experience writer’s block, allow yourself to write badly. A first draft is meant to be just that; editing does not mean you have failed. It means you are improving your writing.

Rainforest topic

In our topic work next week, we will be learning about indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest and how they use its resources.

In our English lessons we will explore and enjoy some poetry written by indigenous people from various communities.

Next week

Eco Council Elections are next week. On Monday we will find out the results of our School Council elections.  Congratulations to all those who put themselves forward – some were quite nervous and unsure whether to stand for election. I was very proud of them all for standing up and trying to convince their respective year groups to vote for them.

Open Classroom on Monday

I look forward to seeing you for the Open Classroom event after school on Monday.
