English:

The children have been writing a summary about a memory from their summer holiday. Their task was to make their writing interesting by using adjectives and adverbs in their writing.

Next week, we will begin our topic on Volcanoes.  We will gather information and learn for how to write a non-fiction text using paragraphs.

Maths:

This week, our focus has been on a baseline assessment in arithmetic and making a start on our new topic ‘Place Values.’  We are currently using concrete resources (children can handle) or using mainly pictorial methods.

I would encourage your child to practise writing their numbers from 1 -100. This will also consolidate their learning on place values for each digit.

Homework:

Please read a variety of books at home with your child. Reading assessments will begin next week. However, I’ve also asked children to do a bit of research or bring in 5 facts on volcanoes, pictures are also welcome.

Maths: Home will be set on Atom Learning, so you will all receive a login for it.

I have also given your child their login details for Times Table Rock Stars in their planners. Please ensure they master their 2,3, 5 and10 times tables at home with regular practise.
