Investigator - First Week

2 September 2024 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

Welcome back to school for our first week of Term 1. It will be a short one, kicking off with the start of our new geography topic. Throughout the term we will be asking the question (and finding out the answer) Why are rainforests important to us? So, if anyone did visit the Amazon over the summer holidays, we will look forward to some on-topic ‘show and tells’!

The Explorer by Katherine Rundell is this term’s class reading book. It is a gripping story of four children’s survival after their plane crashes in the Amazon jungle. It also paints a vivid picture of the rainforest itself. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel during the holiday and look forward to sharing it with the class. We will begin reading this week and if you would like to order your own copy of the book you can find details here:

World of Books The Explorer

Amazon The Explorer

Obviously, other booksellers are available online and in the high street.

Information about other subjects is available on the class page by following the links to the Year 4 and the Year 5 Curriculum Newsletter

PE

Investigator will have PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and their first lesson this term will be on the first day back to school. They should come to school on Wednesday in their PE kits.

Weekly Homework

Maths – There will be weekly online maths homework on Atom maths.

SPaG -  spellings will be given out on Thursday and tested the following Thursday.

English Skills work booklets will be issued in due course and children will be expected to complete a weekly test at home.

Children should be reading at home every day.

That’s all for now – have a great week!
