Unicorn Class Blog                    Term 6 Week 5                Week Commencing 1st July 2024

Wow, what a great job the Unicorns did on Sports Day on Thursday.

This week as well as taking part in our own Sports day, we have enjoyed listening to stories about other sports days. There were lots of discussions about how ours was similar and different. We discussed different teams and how they sometimes have kits or uniforms to show they are a team such as Nettlebed Community Primary School, nurses, firefighters, countries competing in the current European Championships Football and Olympics. One child told everyone, “I watched England play football and both countries were wearing different colours and England won.” We designed our own sports team kits. We discussed that during the Olympics when people come first, second and third in their races they get medals. Some of us decided to make our own medals or medals for other people.

This week in Unicorns we have used our fine motor skills to connect the marble run together and then use water to pour down the run. Some children used their good imagination and pretended they were scientists making medicines, whilst others decided that they were making different flavoured drinks.

We have enjoyed using the large construction to make houses that we can get inside and large sheets of cardboard and sheets to make dens. We have been using the large dinosaurs to make up stories and have been building different train tracks. One was made to go through dinosaur land where passengers on the train could see the dinosaurs.

During maths this week we have been looking at patterns, creating patterns and continuing patterns using paint, Numicon pegs, small teddies and the environment.

During phonics we have been singing nursery rhymes, playing alliteration games and listening games. We have also been singing the alphabet chant, playing Georgie's gym, recapping the sounds p, i and n. This week we have been practising writing the letters p, i and n using the ‘Success for All’ phonics scheme Letter Formation Cues. P- from head to tail, back up, right around the parrot. i- down the insect and lift and dot n- from head to toe and over the net.

Outside we had continued to do good taking turns and sharing on the bikes and scooters, use the sand pit, play hide and seek, use the climbing frame to continue strengthening our gross motor skills and playing chasing games.

We have enjoyed using the playdough, doing puzzles, looking at books with each other and threading.

The home corner has been popular. It has been a café preparing delicious food such as ginger bread, a Palace with security guards looking after the princesses living there and a family home, caring for the babies and each other.

This coming week we are having a teddy bear theme, including preparing for and having a teddy bears picnic.

hope you have all had a lovely weekend

Best wishes

Mrs Fenwick
