Investigator - The Week Ahead 13.5.24

11 May 2024 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

In our history topic lessons, we will be looking at the impact of trade and asking ‘How did trade change the Iron Age?’

This week we will explore the expansion of trade in the Iron Age and how trade developed from bartering to a system of coinage. The ‘Would You Survive?’ game will give pupils an opportunity to win the game through successful bartering and also to understand why coinage eventually replaced the bartering system.

In maths we look at further examples of using decimal numbers in real life as we begin a unit on Money. Handling real money is going out of fashion as the majority of transactions are carried out by other means. Pupils still need to understand the value of money and what those electronic transactions actually mean. Please try to provide opportunities for your children to continue to handle money outside of maths lessons when buying things.

Interestingly, in our history lessons, we find out about the early days of coinage and in maths we will be talking about its demise.

Quad Kids and music lessons

On Wednesday, some of the class are off to The Oratory for the Quad Kids competition. Please make sure that you complete the online permission form as soon as possible (already sent via email). If pupils chose not to take part they will stay in school for the usual afternoon of music and drama.

We will do our best to rearrange the clarinet/cornet lessons throughout the earlier part of the day so children should bring their instruments as normal.

Exciting new about the Upper School Play

Children have brought home play scripts this weekend.  We will be calling on some children from Investigator to take on a speaking part and we will be holding auditions for Porridge before the end of term. All Year 4 will be part of the chorus and will take on other non-speaking roles.

Have a great week!
