Highflyer Class Term 5 Week 5

10 May 2024 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt))

An exciting week with visitors in school!

The last week has been so busy, especially as it was only four days!    We had a lovely time discovering about other transport this week - and it couldn't be more different.   Wednesday saw a visit from a Waitrose delivery van and Friday witnessed two penny-farthing circling the playground, ridden by gnetlemen dressed in 19th century clothing complete with bowler hats!   They were Bill Pollard and his friend Matt Richardson who will be cycling on their Penny Farthings from Henley to Paris to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The children have really enjoyed it with lots of questions along the way.

This week we continue to look at the biography of Amelia Earhart as well as starting our science topic.

Phonics focus

/n/ phoneme spelt ‘kn’ or ‘gn’ (e.g. knight/gnat)

Homophones: no/know

Maths

Continuing with mass and capacity and learning about standard measures.   The maths homework will be sent home on Monday instead of Friday last week.    Also, last week' s homework should be handed in on Monday due to the Bank Holiday giving us a short week in school.

Forest School: as normal.

D & T

Wow!  Thank you all so much for sending in your recyling - I think we may have enough now - although Mrs Mayor is using it on Thursday again.

Many thanks and have a lovely week.
