Unicorn Class Term 4 Week 6

1 April 2024 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick))

Unicorn Class Blog                  Term 4 Week 6                      Week Commencing 25th March 2024

This week we have enjoyed Easter preparations including making Easter baskets, eggs, rabbit ears, biscuits, pictures and putting our Easter rabbit pictures together. We have enjoyed Easter egg hunts and egg and spoon races. Some of us came up with a good idea of using the eggs and Sellotape to decorate the classroom.

We used pompoms, Easter sequins and octagons to make patterns. Some of us also noticed that the eggs that had the number and amount of chicks that matched had the same pattern on.

During Forest school we did an Easter egg hunt and we all found a big and little egg each. At snack time we enjoyed eating the bunny biscuits we had made and the little egg. Charlotte showed us a bird’s nest. We noticed that it had been made using little twigs, feathers, moss and leaves.

We enjoyed teamwork and problem solving to get a pulley working to carry sticks that we had collected across to the den. We also enjoyed climbing logs and trees.

We explored floating and sinking in a large container of rain water and in a large muddy puddle. We also enjoyed jumping in the muddy puddle and watching the patterns of the ripples in the water after the splash. Some of us pretended that we were pirates on a pirate ship. On our adventure we discovered a tree that was only a little bit taller than us.

We tried to look for the tadpoles in the pond to see if there had been any changes but we did not see any tadpoles. We wondered whether it was harder to see any because it had rained. We did see a newt pop up to the surface though.

This week we have also shared and discussed, ‘The hospital Dog’ written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Sara Ogilvie. The hospital dog, Dot, is a very special and brave dog. Mrs Fenwick wrote down what we told her about the book and then we did a drawing. We have been very lucky to have a visit from our school pat dog, Tiger, who is also a working dog. Some of us noticed that Tiger had a coat on like Dot the dog in ‘The hospital dog’.

We have continued to love using the home corner and getting dressed up in different costumes. We used the timer to help us with sharing and taking turns.

Using Mobilo, brio and vehicles has been very popular and we have enjoyed singing and stories.

In the water tray we enjoyed pretending to make meals and drinks using the liquid dispenser, sauce pans, colander, bowls, spoons and cups. We did careful pouring, stirring and scooping.

In the sand, we made a dinosaur land, we made roads, car parking spaces, lakes and enjoyed finding treasure gems.

When we come back to school after the school holidays our topic will be life cycles. We will be exploring a range of life cycles. I wonder whether the tadpoles in the school pond have any changes to them.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter holiday and get a chance to feel refreshed.

I look forward to seeing you all and hearing your school holiday news. If you would like to bring in a picture to show and tell you are welcome to do so.

Best wishes

Mrs Fenwick
