Unicorn Class Term 4 Week 5

24 March 2024 (by Rebecca Fenwick (rfenwick))

Unicorn Class Blog                  Term 4 Week 5                       Week Commencing 18th March 2024

This week has been another busy and fun week of exploring.

During Forest School we were fascinated by the little tadpoles that had hatched from the frogs spawn and the newts popping up and making splashes in the surface of the water then diving back down again. We enjoyed the story of ‘The Tweenie Weenie tadpole’, we were fascinated by the changes to the tadpole into a frog and pleased that he was able to jump out of the pond to get away from the big bad fish.

During Forest school we also collected sticks into the wheelbarrow, climbed trees, took turns with the hammock, looked for mini beasts by digging with spades and turning over logs. We also enjoyed exploring clay this week and making mini beasts using the clay.

We have been looking after our radish plants that we planted last week and have been impressed with how quickly they have grown.

This week we have had a focus on patterns. We have noticed patterns in the environment such as patterns on the drains, lights, on each other's shoes and flowers. Arranged objects into patterns, extended and created patterns, noticed and corrected errors in repeated patterns. We have used colours, shapes, teddies, body percussion, instruments and vehicles.

We enjoyed watching Marcie show us and teach us some of her ballet moves and then we had a go at practising what she had taught us. We then took it in turns to create some dance moves that we could take turns to show, copy and repeat. We also enjoyed making bridges with our bodies and taking turns to crawl/slide through.

We have also enjoyed decorating and making patterns on Easter eggs, painting using spoons, forks and thin paint brushes.

We have looked and discussed pictures of different nursery rhymes and learned some new ones. We particularly liked Hey Diddle, Diddle. We had a very interesting conversation about different instruments, cows jumping over the moon, dishes running away with spoons, dogs laughing and different rhyming words. We have also been continuing to use our letter knowledge to work out beginning sounds.

This week we have made fire engines, police cars and ambulances using Mobillo and junk modelling. The junk modelling has also been used to make jewellery and for printing.

The big wooden car has been in high demand and has been on many journeys and adventures. We used a list with our names and a timer to help us take turns at busy times.

Climbing has been popular with children enjoying challenging themselves and keep trying until they have achieved what they have been trying to do. The pedal walker has also challenged children this week. Musical instruments, using the hoops, playing hide and seek, What's the time Mr Wolf and other chasing games have all been popular.

We have also enjoyed building with the 3D shapes some of us wanted to make towers and slides for the teddies.

Next week we will be making Easter baskets, biscuits, hats and going on Easter egg hunts.

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and looking forward to seeing you all for more exploring this coming week.

Best wishes

Mrs Fenwick
