Term 4 In Discovery 19.02.2024

11 February 2024 (by Sonia Coles (scoles))

I hope the children are feeling rested and ready for a new term with lots of new learning experiences.

Our Topic for Term 4 is India with a geography-based focus. We will be looking how is the culture, customs and country of India different to ours in the UK? Locating where India is on the map, learning about weather patterns, food/ tasting, fashion, animals and their natural habitats, including reading and listening to the stories from The Panchatantra.

English/ Topic:

The children will have an opportunity to taste a mango lassi made in school. Mango lassi is a creamy yogurt-based drink from India made with mango, some milk, a little sugar. Week 1 will also include a comparison of a full English breakfast from the UK and a South Indian breakfast, identifying similarities and difference. They will write a set of instructions, including all features to support their writing. Following the writing activity, they will research 1 aspect  each on the country India and present a collaborated power point.

Maths: Fraction (Unit A)

We completed our topic on length and perimeter in the last week of term 3. Whilst the children were able to use all 4 maths operations to solve the questions it is imperative they continue to practise questions that involve conversion of units of measure.

Swimming: Year 3 and 4 will have lesson on Tuesday mornings. Please ensure your child brings a labelled towel, hat, swimwear  and goggle (optional) on the day. Labelled uniform is equally important especially in the changing rooms.

Core subjects: English and Maths will be taught in the afternoon instead of the morning on a Tuesday for T4. Please see the timetable attached in the curriculum letter.

Homework:

Maths: Atom learning and time tables

English: Research facts on India

Reading and spellings daily.

Thank you all for the support and wishing you all a good week ahead.
