Investigator - The Week Ahead 29.1.24

28 January 2024 (by Sarah Roberts (sroberts))

     The Milk Kaleidoscope Experiment

The Romans

Our history topic has been fascinating and I am delighted that so many children are carrying out their own independent research – they clearly want to know more! At the start of term, we asked the question 'Were Roman invasions good for Britain?’ and as we near the end of our topic we will be considering the evidence, discussing it and writing a balanced argument.

Maths

We will turn our attention to informal written methods for division. As division is the inverse of multiplication, children will need their multiplication facts at their fingertips and must continue to practise them.

Homework

Maths

Atom maths this week practises formal written methods for multiplication.  Some children have been ‘itching’ to use these formal written methods while we have been exploring other ‘informal’ written methods.  It is important to have a range of strategies for calculation and to be able to choose the most efficient method to perform any particular calculation.

Reading

All pupils have created a Read Theory account.  This is an online tool to practise reading comprehension. Pupils are able to access this at home if they so wish but this is entirely optional.  Read Theory does not replace the other reading activities that take place in school and at home.

English Skills workbooks and spellings should be completed and practised as normal.

Swimming

Please look out for an email giving details of Year 4’s swimming lessons in Term 4.  The email will contain a link to an online form which you will be required to submit prior to the lessons.

Science

Please have a look at the gallery where you will find photos from Science lessons last week.  Y4’s Milk Kaleidoscope experiment aimed to find out the effects of soap on fat molecules.  Y5 were testing various substances to find out if they are acids or alkalis.  They also investigated neutralising an acid.

Have a great week!
