Highflyer Class Term 3 Week 2

15 January 2024 (by Dorothy Wyatt (dwyatt))

Dear Parents and Carers,
What a lovely week we had last week; the first of the new year.
We started our topic -
How do the lives of rich people in history differ to those who were poor?
We began looking at the Tudor era and we have found out some fascinating facts!   I think the favourite one so far is that rich people that wore ruffs had to drink soup using a very long-handled spoon!   On the other hand, we thought that the woollen clothes of the poor must have been very itchy to wear all the time - especially if they rarely took them off to wash!
We continue finding facts about the Tudors before looking at the Victorians over the next week or so.  Our writing will be based on this.
Reading - your child should have a free choice book that is fiction in their book bags.   They have chosen this and I would ask if you would read with them their story book, talking and supporting their reading.    I have also asked them to write some unknown words in their planner to learn and find out the meaning.   They can have time doing this, using dictionaries in school.  This way their range of vocabulary will increase and begin to use it in their talk and then their writing!
Maths - continuing with 2D and 3D shapes and their particular properties.
Otherwise, the week ahead is the normal timetable.   Forest School on Tuesday.

Wishing you all a great week!
