Highflyer Class Term 2 Week 1

3 November 2023 (by admin)

I do hope you all enjoyed the break last week and found some refreshing time with the family.

Week beginning 30 October 2023

I do hope you all enjoyed the break last week and found some refreshing time with the family. This week commences our new topic, 'Our Island Nation'; finding out about the geography of the country of where we live. It promises to be a great topic!

Reading

This week we continue the book - Animal Poems. Using rhythm and rhyme, this book will allow to learn how poetry is structured and how much fun can be had reciting poems - even from memory! We practised how to show the drama and meaning as we read aloud the previous week - it was quite an exciting experience! Just another reminder to please return your Extreme Earth or Chicken Little books from previous weeks - there are still a couple yet to be returned. Thank you though for those that have come back! Also, a big thanks to all, for a united effort to supply a plastic bag for protection of the new reading book. It will make a huge difference.

Phonics Focus

Words beginning ‘wr’ (and review words with ‘wh’ and ‘ph’)

Spellings

Spellings will start this week - to be tested on a Wednesday every week. Please look out for a small spelling book that needs to be in school on test days! It can be used at home for extra practice.

Maths

We are continuing the addition and subtraction unit. These are our learning points for this week:

  • Bonds to 100 (tens)

  • Add and subtract 1s

  • Add by making 10

  • Add three 1-digit numbers

  • Reasoning and Problem solving

There are also Mastering Number sessions to practice the small steps of understanding number at the beginning of the lesson.

Reminders - Forest School - Term 2

This week is Group 1's first session at Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to bring in a full waterproof kit. Also, now the weather is more likely to be inclement, please provide a larger and suitable bag for them to put wet clothes into afterwards. Your child will need a change of clothes that cover their arms and legs, waterproofs/wellington boots for wet weather, a hat and drink. Old clothes are ideal as they will get muddy and torn in the wild area at school.

If your child is NOT doing Forest School presently, all can wear PE kit.

All Year 2 should wear PE kits to school on a Thursday.

Many thanks and have a lovely week!
