Highflyer Class Term 1 Week 7

3 November 2023 (by admin)

The last week of Term 1 and how quickly it has sped by.

Week beginning 16 October 2023

The last week of Term 1 and how quickly it has sped by. Events this week include the Cross-Country running on Monday 16th October at Langtree School, and the Star of the Term assembly on Friday. We will be also looking at the celebrations at the end of WW2 as we finish our termly topic.

Reading

This week we are starting a new book - Animal Poems. Using rhythm and rhyme, this book will allow to learn how poetry is structured and how much fun can be had reciting poems - even from memory! Please return your Extreme Earth or Chicken Little books from previous weeks. I would also ask that the books could be placed in book bags or backpacks so that they are protected from water/water bottles leaking or other food stuffs. Recently, several books have been water damaged - so much so that they will need to be replaced. As they are brand new this term, it is disappointing that they have had such a short time to be used. Please encourage your child to look after their reading books: place the book inside their planners and then inside something waterproof. Hopefully, this will allow them to last for future year groups!

Maths

We are starting learning an addition and subtraction unit. These are our learning points for this week:

  • Bonds to 10

  • Fact families - addition and subtraction bonds within 20

  • Related facts

  • Bonds to 100 (tens)

  • Add and subtract 1s

There are also Mastering Number sessions to practice the small steps of understanding number at the beginning of the lesson.

Reminders - Forest School

This week is Group 2's third session at Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. This week they can bring in Halloween items to make the afternoon a little different - but no fancy dress. Please remember to bring in a full waterproof kit. Your child will need a change of clothes that cover their arms and legs, waterproofs/wellington boots for wet weather, a hat and drink. Old clothes are ideal as they will get muddy and torn in the wild area at school.

If your child is NOT doing Forest School presently, all can wear PE kit.

All Year 2 should wear PE kits to school on a Thursday.

Many thanks and have a lovely week!
