Highflyer Class Term 1 Week 6

3 November 2023 (by admin)

It was lovely to meet you with the parent teacher interviews last week and have a chance to chat about settling into Year 2 and general questions.

Week beginning 9 October 2023

It was lovely to meet you with the parent teacher interviews last week and have a chance to chat about settling into Year 2 and general questions. The skipping workshop on Friday was great and the demonstration showed the variety of things that can be done. If you have bought a skipping rope for your child, they are welcome to bring it in and use it at break times. PLEASE NAME it, preferably on the handle, so they don't get mixed up with others in school.

Reading

This is the second week of our non-fiction book, Extreme Earth. As we read the book over the next week there will be a lot of book talk and developing understanding through discussion, comparison and prediction.

We will learn how to give our opinions and start to write our ideas and recommendations for others. Please ask questions about the book to encourage recall and their ideas.

Maths

We are about to finish our place value unit and start learning addition and subtration. These are our learning points for this week:

Count in 3s

Problem solving and reasoning

Mini-assessment

The language of addition and subtraction.

There are also Mastering Number sessions Monday to Thursday to practice the small steps of understanding number.

Reminders - Forest School

This week is Group 2's second session at Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to bring in a full waterproof kit every Tuesday to change into. Your child will need a change of clothes that cover their arms and legs, waterproofs/wellington boots for wet weather, a hat and drink. Old clothes are ideal as they will get muddy and torn in the wild area at school. If your child is NOT doing Forest School presently, all can wear PE kit.

All Year 2 should wear PE kits to school on a Thursday.

Many thanks and have a lovely week!
