Highflyer Class Term 1 Week 5

3 November 2023 (by admin)

This week are the parent/teacher appointments on Tuesday and Thursday.

Week beginning 2 October 2023

This week are the parent/teacher appointments on Tuesday and Thursday. Your child would have brought a slip home to confirm a time as close as possible to your request when completing the form sent out. If you have not got an appointment, please make contact to the class email so we can find a mutually convenient time. These 10 minute appointments at this early point in the year will give you an idea of how your child is settling into class and for parents to meet the teacher if there has not already been opportunity to do so. I look forward to meeting you all.

Topic/English

It has been so interesting, not only for the children but for the adults as well, to hear of family stories of WW2 and for precious artefacts to be brought in as well. It has been fascinating and the children have been so proud to talk of their family member to the rest of the class.

We are still learning about new facts from the war and continuing to use the book 'Otto' - to have a better realisation of feelings in that time. Last week, we created posters to help motivate the reader and looked at different ones that were displayed during the war.

Reading

We are starting a new book this week - non fiction. As we read the books over the two weeks, there will be a lot of book talk and developing understanding through discussion, comparison and prediction. There will be a review of the previous book, Chicken Little, and we will learn how to give our opinions and start to write our ideas and recommendations for others. Please ask questions about the book to encourage recall and their ideas.

Maths

We are continuing to focus on place value. These are our learning points for this week:

Order objects and numbers

Count in 2s, 5s and 10s

Count in 3s

Problem solving and reasoning

Reminders - Forest School

This week is Group 2's first session at Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to bring in a full waterproof kit every Tuesday to change into. Your child will need a change of clothes that cover their arms and legs, waterproofs/wellington boots for wet weather, a hat and drink. Old clothes are ideal as they will get muddy and torn in the wild area at school.

If your child is NOT doing Forest School presently, all can wear PE kit.

All Year 2 should wear PE kits to school on a Thursday.

Many thanks and have a lovely week!
