Highflyer Class Term 1 Week 4

3 November 2023 (by admin)

I can't believe how September seems to be rushing by - the fourth week already!

Week beginning 25 September 2023

I can't believe how September seems to be rushing by - the fourth week already!

Topic/English

It has been great how some of you have spoken of family history connecting WW2 and are bringing in their facts. The children are really excited to know of some family connection - even if it is a small nugget of information and listening to others share their knowledge.

We are still finding out facts about the war and this week looking at 'Otto' - our facts helping us to understand the difficulties this character experienced.

If you have some free time this coming weekend, the Wallingford and Cholsey Railway are hosting a '1940s themed event' with volunteers role playing wartime features. Entry can include train rides as well. Click on the photo below for more website information and ticket prices.

It promises to be a fun event!

National Poetry Day

On Thursday this week, 28th September, is National Poetry Day. Our theme is 'refuge' and we will be having a poetry lesson based on the rhyming book called 'Nature Trail' by Benjamin Zephaniah.

Reading

This week is the second week of the traditional tale 'Chicken Little'. Your child should know their book number by now - this will not change throughout the year. Again, please keep the books inside their planner to provide some protection. As always, please bring the book into school every day with their planner. Books will be collected in this Friday.

Maths

We are continuing to focus on place value. These are our learning points for this week:

Estimate numbers on a number line

Compare objects

Compare numbers

Order objects and numbers

Count in 2s, 5s and 10s

Reminders - Forest School

This week is Group 1's third session at Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to bring in a full waterproof kit every Tuesday to change into. Your child will need a change of clothes that cover their arms and legs, waterproofs/wellington boots for wet weather, a hat and drink. Old clothes are ideal as they will get muddy and torn in the wild area at school. If your child is NOT doing Forest School presently, all can wear PE kit and we will see how it goes in the next few weeks.

All Year 2 should wear PE kits to school on a Thursday.

Many thanks and have a lovely week!
